Grafton Lawn Alternative
A Lawn Reformed
Our clients came to us after experiencing a drought that affected most of Massachusetts from June until late September, 2022. Their lawn had been scorched and needed an overhaul. Instead of following the traditional path of turf grass accompanied by its resource-heavy requirements (watering and fertilizer maintenance), our client desired a solution that could endure the extreme conditions of a front landscape that had poor soil and 12+ hours of sun daily.

Making A Meadow
Having decided to avoid the traditional lawn, we prepared the area for seeding.
Our first step was to reset the existing grass and weeds that lingered in the space. We used a single herbicide pass to take care of this growth and allow for our native-based custom seed mix to have the highest chances of successful germination and establishment.
From there we prepped the site by scuffing the soil surface to allow for our seed mix to make contact with the seed bed.
Within the first season we had an abundance of annual and perennial wildflowers establish themselves. Our clients now look forward to its evolution as the plants mature.
