Our client reached out to us to come up with an alternative to their poorly performing lawn. The site has naturally poor soil and droughty conditions through most of the space. Trying to get traditional turf grass to flourish here would require herculean amounts of water and fertilizer, both of which the client was not interested in.
The solution we provided is a seeded native meadow taylored for the site’s conditions. In order to provide context and signal intentionality to the meadow, generously sized mown paths to help provide a contrast to the natural form of the meadow pockets.
In addition to the meadow we planted native specimen trees of varying size and final mature scale providing for a longer term plan for creating a savannah.
